Bold Return
byAfter more than a decade of silence, Playbook Muzik, the Gary, Indiana–based independent record label, is making a bold return to the music scene — and it’s doing so with a surprising plot: a country artist. The label has officially signed K. James, a hometown talent whose soulful, genre-bending sound is redefining country music for a new generation.
Originally founded in the early 2000s by three childhood friends from Gary, Playbook Muzik built its reputation on championing local artists across rap, R&B, pop, and blues. Today, the label is relaunching with a renewed focus on storytelling, authenticity, and cross-genre artistry — starting with K. James, whose debut single “Bet It All” drops later this month.

K. James’ journey began at just 14 years old when he recorded his first track for the documentary Live and Die in G.I., a song that became a local hit. Decades later, his return to the studio under the Playbook Muzik banner is both a homecoming and a fresh start.
The label’s relaunch will include a regional tour, exclusive media appearances, and collaborations with emerging Midwest producers and songwriters. Playbook Muzik plans to use digital platforms, direct fan engagement, and community events to reignite its brand and reintroduce Gary’s talent to the national scene.
Playbook Muzik was always about giving Gary’s artists a voice on the worldstage.
Playbook Muzik plans to roll out a series of new artist signings and digital campaigns throughout 2026, using social media storytelling, live showcases, and streaming partnerships to reconnect with fans across the country.
